Paces Races Restoration Progress February 25
This is the final disassembly of the right most frame member containing the odds wheel. Most of the remainder is the finish line and associated pneumatics.
The clutch is disassembled, showing layers of metal, leather, and plastic parts. Note some of the metal discs have depressions and nubs on them to increase friction.
The finish line is still on the casting, this time with the casting upside down. The bar at the very bottom is the reset bar, activated after the horses reach the finish line.
This is the pneumatic part of the finish line, where a vacuum is present on the winning horse.
Once the horse reaches the finish line, a vacuum is created which collapses the corresponding bellows. These bellows, one for each horse, then lift a bar which senses the payout.
Here are all the boxes of parts for the Paces Races. Were I to die, some poor soul would have to figure out how to put it all back together! The piano roll spools are on the left, the fabric and tubing is at the bottom left, and the ratchet bars are at the top middle.
