Paces Races Progress January 15

Rather than remove more assemblies, I cleaned the horse carriages.  I do not know why but I felt the need to see something clean!

Note the excessive grease on each of these horse carriages.  The linkages are supposed to relax when the lever is pushed forward by the ratchet, and grab when the ratchet bar returns to its relaxed position.  This prevents the horse from backing up.

The tape is used to protect the cosmetic part of the horse while the carriage part is cleaned.  The tape protects horse from the glass beads used in the cleaning process.

It is very satisfying to see the cleaned parts.  The mechanism has been lubricated and is ready to be installed.  The clothes pin holds the lever up to prevent the lever from falling out of the mounting hole.  All spring mounts have also been lubricated as the spring mount rubs against the spring when the spring goes through its range of motion.

The first assembly is clean!  How exciting.  There are however some problems.  For example the green horse has lost its tail!.  Again, the clothes pins hold the levers and prevent the carriage from falling apart.  The horses are cosmetically in good condition and will not be repainted or touched up.  See our philosophy about cosmetic restoration.
